Bahai.media is an independent, collaboratively built repository for images, pdf files, audio talks and other media related to the Bahá’í Faith. It was started in September 2007 by David Haslip to meet the media needs of Bahaipedia and Bahai.works. The files hosted here mostly represent content derived from periodicals and other historical works published over the last 100 years. Images from these sources are cropped, uploaded and categorized with related pictures. Each category fits into a hierarchy of topics and related media types or files. To explore topics see "Navigate by topic" on the main page.
As of today, editors have made 151,914 edits and uploaded 22,665 files to the project.
Technology
Files uploaded to bahai.media are replicated and stored in 4 regions: Virginia, Brazil, Singapore and Germany. Each region acts as an origin server for Cloudfront, a content delivery network that caches and more broadly distributes our most commonly accessed files. This type of distribution significantly reduces download times, especially for very large files. File uploads are processed in the region closest to the user for efficiency, and subsequently distributed to other regions. See Bahaipedia:About for general technical information about server architecture. View our github repository for custom code we use.
Copyright
All media files uploaded to Bahai.media should be accompanied by a valid license tag demonstrating permission to host and use them on Bahai.media and its sister projects, including Bahaipedia, Bahai.works, and Bahai9.com and their various language versions.
