Caption | Slide 057 - We found that a great many of the Bush Negroes still follow the old pagan religion of Africa. Everywhere we saw large and small voodoo shrines, "voodoo" no doubt being derived from the African name "juju," which means magic. Inside that little shrine, inside the clay jar standing on that pole, is some kind of witch craft placed there by the witch doctors as a protection for the people or an offering to the spirits. |
