Caption The Manukau City group tree planting ceremony was held as part of the Proclamation activities of the Bahá’ís of New Zealand. There were twenty-eight people present at the Grande Vue Road Reserve, Manurewa, on Saturday, November 4, 1967 to welcome Mayor H. C. Lambie (center of photo, holding spade). The group included Auxiliary Board member H. Blundell and Doug Weeks, chairman of the National Spiritual Assembly. The Mayor expressed appreciation to the Bahá’ís for their generous gesture where plans had been made for a large-scale tree planting. He spoke of the Bahá’í principle of unifying the various peoples of the world: “We have in Manukau City many branches, many Polynesians, many people of all races,” he said. “It is my wish, my desire, and I know that it has your blessing, that they will become one family tree.”
