Caption The Hawaiian Bahá’í community’s float in the annual Aloha Week parade, held September 29 in Honolulu, won the Mayor’s Award for the best entry in the non-commercial division. The float, designed and constructed by Bahá’ís from all parts of Oahu and from some of the neighboring islands, was covered with more than 40,000 flowers. This was the 18th year in which Bahá’ís in Hawaii have taken part in the parade, and their floats have now won a total of 15 awards. Riding on this year’s float were Bahá’ís of various ethnic backgrounds, most of them youth. The parade was seen by about 100,000 people along its route and by hundreds of thousands more on television.
