Caption Hundreds of Bahá’ís from all over the world visit the Guardian’s grave (facing page) every year in the Great Northern Cemetery in London. Shoghi Effendi’s remains were laid to rest November 9, 1957, upon a rug from the Holy Tomb at Bahjí. Since that sad and memorable day, when the Bahá’ís of the United Kingdom were made the custodians of so great a treasure, a beautiful yet simple memorial, designed by the Guardian’s widow, Amatu’l-Bahá Rúḥíyyih Khánum, has been erected and surrounded by formal gardens. The cemetery is located on a beautiful, peaceful spot on a hill surrounded by rolling country.
