Caption Diane Smith, a member of the Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Honolulu, opens the Hawaii State Senate session March 21 with a Bahá’í prayer. It has become traditional for the State Senate to have a Bahá’í open its March 21 session or the session closest to it when March 21 falls on a weekend. The day has been officially designated Bahá’í New Year’s Day by Hawaii state law.
