File info[edit]
Caption | On Sunday, May 3, 1964, Miss Marian Anderson planted a “Marian Anderson” rose bush in the Temple gardens in Wilmette. The Hand of the Cause Leroy Ioas said on that occasion, “It is befitting that in these beautiful gardens surrounding this universal House of Worship, dedicated to the oneness of mankind, of religion and of God, Miss Anderson should plant this universal symbol of the unity of the world, of purity and of perfection . . . for the rose is truly the one universal flower, found in all parts of the world.” |
